New Delhi

Many seasoned travelers have India on their bucket list, and there is no better place to begin your trip than New Delhi. The Indian capital will serve as the starting point for your journey, from the must-see sights like the Red Fort and Bahá’ Lotus Temple to the unrivaled North Indian food served at both upscale eateries and street vendors in Old Delhi. Additionally, you may fly short distances from Delhi to popular southern destinations like Goa or Kerala in addition to being able to drive or take a train to close-by must-see locations like Agra and Jaipur.

We’ve detailed the top hotels in New Delhi to help you plan your trip there (and just wait until you experience Indian hospitality to the fullest extent at these five-star properties). Additionally, we’ve covered Delhi’s best places to buy, eat, and see the sights. This map will take you to places like Lodhi Colony, the first public arts district in India, bazaars teeming with shops selling antiques and embroidered silk, and eateries serving seekh kebabs fresh off the grill.

Transportation In Delhi

When planning a trip to India, keep in mind that the hottest months, May through September, are also the wettest. In addition, the monsoon season (July, August, and September) is when the rains are at their heaviest. The months of November through March are ideal for a trip to New Delhi since temperatures are mild and rainfall is minimal, averaging around 70 and 80 degrees.

In terms of festive occasions, the month of December sees Diwali, a celebration that literally sets the city ablaze. If you happen to be in the area in March, you may enjoy the city’s colorful Holi celebrations, which mark the arrival of spring. Even if you can’t make it to New Delhi for the festivals of light (Diwali) and color (Holi), you may still witness a spectacular procession on Republic Day, which is celebrated every year on January 26.

Trains: The Delhi Metro has vastly improved over the past few years. The fast transit vehicles move people and visitors throughout the city with ease, while the Airport Metro Express Line offers transportation to and from Delhi Airport. A one-day tourist metro pass costs 150 rupees, while a three-day pass costs 300 rupees.

Bus: DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) buses serve the metropolitan area. The buses are not always air-conditioned and are frequently rather full. Depending on the distance traveled, fares range from 5 to 25 rupees.

Taxis & Rickshaws: For short travels across Delhi, it is simple to step into a rickshaw, which is a bicycle-drawn carriage. For longer journeys, you may also take an auto-rickshaw, which is essentially an open-air carriage powered by a conventional automobile engine. Auto-rickshaws serve as taxis, but you may also phone for a taxi on demand. Ola Cabs are quite popular in Delhi, while Uber also provides service to the city.
