The 42-meter India Gate, an Arc-de-Triomphe-style archway in the centre of a crossroads, lies in the heart of New Delhi. It was constructed as a tribute to the 70,000 Indian troops who died during World War I. Sir Edwin Lutyens designed the gate, which was finished in 1931.
